LYNN KOTULA: A Life in Painting 1984-2020

In June, 2022, Bowery Gallery presented Lynn Kotula: A Life in Painting 1984–2020, an exhibition of paintings and drawings spanning the late artist’s entire career. Scroll down to see installation photos. All of the paintings that were in the show are viewable on this site.

The 80-page catalog that accompanied the show is still available for purchase. It illuminates, with Lynn’s own words and painter and writer John Goodrich’s essay, how Lynn approached her work. “What I look for are those moments when I leave my conscious and knowing self behind and disappear into the experience of looking, and finding equivalents for that experience through color and drawing. … I want my paintings to tell the non-verbal stories that only painting can tell.”
